Ken Garduno’s work leaves me with a feeling of anxiety. His characters, meticulously rendered, are like the characters in a film-noir-science-fi movie mash-up. Often, they seem to be engaging in procedures that require complicated devices. The attention of each of these character’s seems to be completely consumed by their activities yet the facial expression remains passive as though these processes are common-place and tedious. Sometimes they look positively bored. I am delighted by these works. Ken’s restraint with colour allows for such powerful intention when he does use it that it breathes a very curious life into these monochromatic worlds.
